Ariella Chezar Workshop

Posted by: melanie | No Comments

Alexander Valley in Northern California is one of my favorite places and Ariella Chezar is one of my favorite floral designers the two came together for 3 extraordinary days this May. Ariella has a lovely way of teaching her techniques and style of design, its such a joy to spend time with her. New flower friends and some old ones spent our time at Chalk Hill Clematis owned and created by the most gracious Kaye and Richard Heafey.

Mothers Day Flowers

Posted by: melanie | No Comments

May is the best time for flowers. Everything is blooming like crazy, not being stressed from the heat or to chilled from the cold. The abundance we have to chose from in the Seattle area is almost greedy after the dormancy of winter. Bainbridge Island is now in full bloom and I can go out to my garden and pick armloads of blossoms like  lilac, tulips, snowball or bleeding heart. These sweet arrangements we made today are a perfect mix of local Bainbridge Island blooms combined with fresh flowers from California. I know my mom would like the yellow flowers the best and if she was still with me I would make her something just as sunny for Mothers Day.If you need some beautiful flowers delivered to your mom this Mothers Day we would love to make them for you.

We have been busy making wreaths and flower arrangements this week, even thought it has been finger biting cold. Plenty of hot cider helps warm our fingers and all the Christmas smells make us happy. Here are some flowers you might like for your house.Christmas arrangement, flowers, silver vase

Elegant Marries Dashing

Posted by: melanie | No Comments

I was having trouble coming up with one word to describe Elizabeth, beautiful, classic, gracious but I think elegant encompasses all of those qualities. Then there is the groom well what can I say, dashing sums it up. Together they seem so right. elegant bride and a dashing groom

Healdsburg with Ariella Chezar part I

Posted by: melanie | No Comments

I just spend a few day in my old home town of Healdsburg California. It was a week full of every emotion I could come up with form tears, I’m not sure why, to joy and fear. All this from a floral workshop and meeting up with old friends. I havent been back to Healdsburg in 12 years, it is a place that I consider a jumping off point for my new life leaving the old one behind. Even all these years later the place still has a profound effect on the way I see the world and how I feel about it. Then enter the new people, new friends in an old place and again my life has taked a turn. Maybe not so dramatic as before but still and experience and people I will never forget.

Floral Designers, nine of us is all, came together from around the country to attend a workshop with Ariella Chezar. Set in the rolling and warm dry hills Chalk Hill Clematis was our host and inspiration. Acres of flowers, vines, and shrubs were our to cut. We did, we cut buckets of them everyday. Chalk Hill grows clematis for the cut flower market and makes their own olive oil from the trees on the estate and balsamic vinegar that was so delicious with our lunches. flowers, ariella chezar

MOTHERS DAY

Posted by: melanie | No Comments

Today and most days I think about my mom. She is not with us anymore and I miss her. But her spirit will never die she had  too much personality. She loved people and had embarrassing ways of saying things we called myraisms. Generous, glamorous, red head then blond, she kept in touch with old friends and family. I love to garden because of her and because I love to garden I love flowers. I made some flower arrangements with my mom in mind, here are a few.

Pickering Barn Wedding

Posted by: melanie | No Comments

Early spring around here can be cold and rainy so why not add some bright color. The Pickering Barn painted in bold barn red is a great foil for  bright orange and yellow flowers. I made all the personal flowers for this beautiful bride and her friends and family pitched in and did all the rest. A u-haul truck full of decor arrived along with a trailer containing a super cute homemade arbor. The photos were sent to me by Catalina Jean Photography. She is new to Portland but will happily travel to our area.

Spring Planters

Posted by: melanie | No Comments

Right now any excuse to go to the nursery is fine with me. There are so many crazy flowers blooming right now it is hard to choose. We like to gather a few combinations of unusual bulbs and some different primroses and plant them in tins or boxes or maybe ceramic. They are perfectly fine outside but do well inside too.
