Elegant White Wedding in Seattle

Posted on: January 4th, 2019 by melanie No Comments

Its been a season of whites and a season of elegance, this wedding has both in abundance. Our exquisite bride chose this Reem Acra gown with white embroidery, bare midriff, hip hugging  skirt and a simple cathedral length veil. The bride chose winter blooming sarcococca as her first love for the flowers, since sarcococca isn’t available as a cut flower we reached out to our gardening friends and the mother of the brides back yard for this sweet smelling shrub. We then added in special blooms such as lily of the valley, peonies, ranunculus, garden roses, and white anemones with black centers for her graceful bouquet. Navy blue velvet was out accent color so we wrapped the bouquet with silk velvet ribbon. Her bridesmaid wore a beaded blush gown from Nordstroms so we fashioned a smaller bouquet to match. All the men were dressed in expertly tailored tuxedos and wore a ranunculus boutonnières with a velvet knot.

The Arctic club is a perfect backdrop for a winter wedding. At one of our meetings, in the  ballroom, the bride selected navy velvet linens and dark wood chavarri chairs, this color palate blended so well with the carpet. Our bride also chose gold accents to go with the navy so we used vintage french  china with a gold rim, gold compotes, antique salt and pepper cellars, cut glass votives for sparkle, navy velvet soft seating, vintage crystal, dark green foliage and lots of candles.

Vines and glowing hurricane candles were placed on either side of the aisle and we laid a navy canvas runner. Masses of bush ivy garland and lichen branches trailed over the clock wall and tall candelabras added light. Large gold urns on dark stands marked the beginning of the aisle and the back was draped with sheers. Guests moved downstairs for cocktail hour, we tied back the draping with vines and moved in the guest tables. Each round guest table had a lush overflowing compote centerpiece and cut glass votives and accents of gold. For the intimate head table, which we placed in front of the ceremony backdrop, and added our mix elements. Winter limits our love for adding fruit, but we found dark rich brown chestnuts and a blue/black privet berry to add texture and interest. Petite vases of panda anemones, vintage gold candlesticks, vases and compote centerpieces were added to the table.

We were so fortunate to have worked with some of our favorite wedding people and the brides family

Kiana Lodge Fall Wedding

Posted on: March 7th, 2017 by melanie No Comments

Beautiful autumn flowers are blooming in abundance this time of year. We especially love the trailing hops available only in the fall. Vines with their loose, twisting, trailing nature give the relaxed garden feel we are always longing for. Our Brides billowy veil and gorgeous custom gown, made with gold thread, is the perfect foil for a bit of hops and lush cafe dahlia, garden rose bouquet. Maris events handles all the many details from Pashmina shawls to carnival games, even a fortune teller. Kiana lodge is always the perfect backdrop for a northwest wedding, the lodge, the sound, the garden, the forest, you have it all. View More:

The ceremony backdrop was the sound itself so we added a bit of drama to the beginning of the aisle with large arrangements in grey urns and rustic farm house lanterns.

The atrium at Kiana lodge was set with farm tables, vintage china and neutral table runners. Long tables need lots of decor so we started with compote arrangements filled with garden roses, vines, crabapple branches, rusty mums, lisianthus and lots of foliage. Between the compotes we placed terra cotta and wire baskets with masses of cafe dahlias. Little bottles of ranunculus and gold votive candles finish the look.

Summer at the Farm Kitchen

Posted on: January 16th, 2016 by melanie No Comments

Peachy pink flowers fresh from the garden are what we used for this super sweet Farm Kitchen wedding. The Farm Kitchen has a relaxed country feel with display and working gardens, orchards and a bachelors cabin. For this wedding we chose locally grown flowers and some from our own cutting garden. Blush garden roses, fruit, clematis, cafe dahlias, vines and sage hydrangeas in pale shades are some of the flowers we used in Sarah’s bridal bouquet. We took inspiration from her bouquet and used them for the ceremony aisle and for the reception tables. Sarah’s beautiful dress from the dress theory in Seattle, we love them. Photos by Kristen Marie, what can I say…Cake, Black Bird Bakery on Bainbridge Island.

Mollie and Graham

Posted on: July 7th, 2015 by melanie No Comments

Last summer just about this time we were involved with amazing wedding of Mollie and Graham. The ceremony and reception took place at the home of Mollies parents on a super hot, scorching day. The beautiful old home sits on Lake Washington with views of the lake and Mt Rainier. Mollies mother is an artist, extraordinary gardener and in love with all things beautiful. She opened her “Martha closet” to us and we got to choose from her collection of vintage containers. To those we added aged terra cotta, vintage brass accents, natural flax linens, vintage french china, mismatched sliver flatware and vineyard chairs. Mollie loves rich plum colors so we used a combination of field grown roses, foxgloves, scented geranium, herbs, local dahlias and fruit in all the arrangements. I spent one afternoon picking pears at the families weekend home on Vashon Island which were a perfect shape and color to use with the flowers.

The ceremony took place lakeside  on the former tennis court. Its now a lovely gravel terrace with a timber frame pergola. If you take the long narrow switch back trail or the tram down the steep cliff a winding stone path leads to the boat dock and terrace. The colors were neutral for this portion of the wedding. A collection of milk glass, cast iron and pale flowers were used during the ceremony and cocktail hour.

Lily of the Valley Bridal Bouquet

Posted on: January 5th, 2015 by melanie No Comments

One of my favorite flowers is Lily of the Valley, the quintessential flower of British wedding flowers. I had never seen one until we moved to a new home when I was about 12. A tiny patch bloomed by the front door every May, somewhat hidden by baby tears and camellia bushes. Now that I live on Bainbridge Island, where Lily of the Valley are easy to grow, my patch of flowers is spreading like mad. But if you want them in your brides bouquet they are still quite special.

The tiny white bells are sold in bunches of 10 with their bright green leaves, they wilt like mad and are super expensive. So  when a bride getting married in August wants a brides bouquet just like Catherine Middelton carried any florist would cringe just a little. But we are always up for a challenge especially if it is a flower close to our heart. For our version of the famous bouquet we used 80 stems of individually wired lilies, freesia, sweet william, myrtle and a few rose buds.

fIts always so fun to work with Michelle at Married and More with Michelle so when she called and said she had a fun couple I was super excited. Amanda and Matt were so sweet and their style shows in this fun and whimsical wedding. Amanda designed all the paper products for her wedding and we took our color inspiration from those colors. Mint, pink and blue could turn out to be a muddle but I love how everything turned out. The pink color came from the Ballerina rose. a pretty single rose that is very difficult to get. Amanda and Matt were engaged under a rose arbor covered with Ballerina so we had to have them on the Chuppah. For the aisle we filled mint vases with minty colored flowers and foliages with light pink and green tulips. A touch of blue came from the velvet ribbon we used to hang them from chairs. Each guest table had a blue glass table filled with spring flowers in pink and green with blue votive holders. I love this wedding and this super cool couple.

Elegant Marries Dashing

Posted on: October 31st, 2013 by melanie No Comments

I was having trouble coming up with one word to describe Elizabeth, beautiful, classic, gracious but I think elegant encompasses all of those qualities. Then there is the groom well what can I say, dashing sums it up. Together they seem so right. elegant bride and a dashing groom

Pickering Barn Wedding

Posted on: April 9th, 2013 by melanie No Comments

Early spring around here can be cold and rainy so why not add some bright color. The Pickering Barn painted in bold barn red is a great foil for  bright orange and yellow flowers. I made all the personal flowers for this beautiful bride and her friends and family pitched in and did all the rest. A u-haul truck full of decor arrived along with a trailer containing a super cute homemade arbor. The photos were sent to me by Catalina Jean Photography. She is new to Portland but will happily travel to our area.
