Winter Flowers

Posted on: December 19th, 2014 by melanie No Comments

If you look out your window its hard to see any flowers in bloom, but there are so many wonderful textures to be found right in you own garden, or maybe your neighbors. In this wintery arrangement we used a birch box and filled it with greenery from our garden; fir, cedar, boxwood, ivy and hellebore foliage. There was so much more to find like holy, lichen branches, redwood, pieris, two kinds of huckleberry and many other wonderful greens and textures. Especially in winter its easy to use fewer flowers and give each bloom some space to contrast with all the interesting greens and textures available in winter. Monochromatic is always a great choice for a flower arrangement making a restful and interesting bouquet. Since we used all white flowers we were able to use many different floral varieties without the arrangement becoming  fussy. Using just a few of each bloom we chose were mini green hydrangeas, hellebore, spray roses, freesia, mini carnation, amaryllis, football mums and roses.

Today and most days I think about my mom. She is not with us anymore and I miss her. But her spirit will never die she had  too much personality. She loved people and had embarrassing ways of saying things we called myraisms. Generous, glamorous, red head then blond, she kept in touch with old friends and family. I love to garden because of her and because I love to garden I love flowers. I made some flower arrangements with my mom in mind, here are a few.

It’s not really spring, yet. Day after day the sky is grey so I thought we might need a little color. One of the first things to bloom in the winter are primroses. The yellow smell the best and are so bright they just called to me. We put a few plants in a box and tied it with a french linen ribbon. They are available for sale on the ledge just outside at Vintage Home and Garden here on Bainbridge Island.

Send Holiday Flowers

Today we used pink and white for this Christmas arrangement. Its kind of fun to use pink since so many beautiful flowers are pink. Some of the grey/blue foliage that we use this time of year such as seeded eucalyptus and gin berries go so well with pink. The candle stick is grey as well and made from concrete. Vintage Home and Garden, a wonderful new store on Bainbridge Island, has them for sale. You can order flowers from them or call direst for a holiday delivery to Bainbridge or Poulsbo.white flowers, pink flowers, glitter pinecones, and native foliage arrangement

Christmas Flowers

Here is a sweet little flower arrangement that would be perfect for a gift. Three of these flower arrangements down the middle of your table would be so pretty and festive. They are made in a small mercury glass vase that can be used as a votive holder as well as a vase. The flowers we used are all white roses, ranunculus, tulips, scented geranium and berries. Just one would make a lovely gift. We are busy in our flower shop and ready to deliver flowers to Bainbridge Island or Poulsbo.

Happy Holidays!

What a lovely surprise this would be for family or friends for the Christmas season. The flowers would be perfect for a Christmas dinner table or on a sideboard. The flowers we uses are a wonderful combination of burgundy shades and include peony, dahlia, ranunculus and a few berries. We combined all the flowers in a wintery birch bark box. The great thing about winter  arrangements is that the foliage lasts such a long time. As the flowers fade they can be taken out and replaced with new fresh blooms or the greens can be left to stand on their own. We would love to deliver this arrangement to Bainbridge Island or flowers, christmas flowers, christmas gift

Winter Color

Winter colors, we usually think white for snow, red and green for Christmas and blue for Hanukah. But what about a little bit different color pallet? For this Winter arrangement we used a bit of lavender. The color blends so well with silver and gold, brown and green. Most of the foliages and textures in these bouquet are so sturdy that the arrangement could be fresh looking for weeks. A perfectly wonderful Christmas gift.

More Fall Flowers

I was asked to make a little flower arrangements for a fundraiser today. I gathered up bits of different foliage and a few hydrangeas for the base. Terra cotta glazed green was a good choice for the container since fall flowers always seem kind of casual, like leaves in the garden. Peachy roses add traditional color, a few lady apples for fun and we have a perfectly sweet arrangement for fall.

If you cant be with family this Thanksgiving why not send a lovely centerpiece for the holiday table. In our Bainbridge Island studio we are busy making flower arrangements that would suit a round or rectangle table. There is no charge for delivery to Bainbridge Island or Poulsbo, so your dollars are spent on the flowers only.

Does anyone ever send you flowers? They never send them to me, but that is probably a good thing. This time of year is a great time to send someone you maybe owe a thank you to some flowers. I have recent customer send a thank you combination Thanksgiving floral arrangement to some friends that have been good to her. She has been putting off sending a note and had the great idea of combining both thank you and Holiday. A Centerpiece for the holiday table or something for the foyer is always so appreciated.

Each week we go to the flower market and select flowers personally  Most flower shops order over the phone but we like to go and see all the wonderful and unusual flowers we can find. Even thought this takes many hour each week it is an important part of what we offer.
