Pocketbook Friendly Wedding Flowers at the Edgewater

Posted on: April 7th, 2017 by melanie No Comments

It was kind of an overcast day in autumn but we just keep going in Seattle even if it is a wedding. Our amazing bride chose blue and burgundy as her  color palate which I thought would be much harder than it was but since red is in abundance in the fall it was pretty easy. With the back drop of grey skies and cold water, the warm colors were perfect at the Edgewater Hotel. We used garden roses, spray roses, scabiosa and a mix of local flowers for the brides “Lexy” bouquet. She wanted trailing ribbons too so of course thats what we did. The ceremony was flanked with tall branches of fall foliage, gold urns and log pedestals provided by the planner. The aisle was lined with pillar candles for a romantic glow. Guest tables, dressed with blue linens, were decorated with our gold vase arrangements and a few pumpkin jars of flowers. Spice jars, pumpkin jars and the brides bouquet were perfect on the sweet heart table. Little jars were used on the escort card table as well. Lots of details were provided by the bride and Amber from A Rene. It doesn’t look like a budget friendly wedding but it was.

The bride chose our Pocketbook line of wedding flowers, beautiful flowers at a great price. The items she chose were our Lexy brides bouquet, Ceci bridesmaids bouquet, pumpkin jars, spice jars, gold vase centerpieces, large arrangements. The bride and Planner provided all the additional decor to make this pretty wedding the best ever.

Winter Flowers

Posted on: December 19th, 2014 by melanie No Comments

If you look out your window its hard to see any flowers in bloom, but there are so many wonderful textures to be found right in you own garden, or maybe your neighbors. In this wintery arrangement we used a birch box and filled it with greenery from our garden; fir, cedar, boxwood, ivy and hellebore foliage. There was so much more to find like holy, lichen branches, redwood, pieris, two kinds of huckleberry and many other wonderful greens and textures. Especially in winter its easy to use fewer flowers and give each bloom some space to contrast with all the interesting greens and textures available in winter. Monochromatic is always a great choice for a flower arrangement making a restful and interesting bouquet. Since we used all white flowers we were able to use many different floral varieties without the arrangement becoming  fussy. Using just a few of each bloom we chose were mini green hydrangeas, hellebore, spray roses, freesia, mini carnation, amaryllis, football mums and roses.

Winter Flowers

Posted on: December 9th, 2014 by melanie No Comments

During the winter so many of our favorite flowers are unavailable or so expensive we have to use the with care. So we look around at what nature has to offer during the season and so many things come to mind. Boxwood, cedar, fir, holly, mossy branches create a base of much loved texture for our precious blooms.

For this  floral display we startled with a sweet mercury glass votive holder and filled it with privet berries, bay leaves, scented geranium, seeded eucalyptus and pieris japonica. That is five different textures in one small vase. Of course we needed flowers to finish it off with a few stems of the very special ranunculus and a smattering of spray roses.

A birch bark tube is filled to overflowing with wintery textures, pine, fir, cones, privet berries, boxwood and pieris buds are a good start for the base of the unusual arrangement. To add some color we used mini green hydrangeas, white ranunculus, stargazer lilies, kale, roses, and peonies. We used candles hoping the recipient would light them for additional Christmas sparkle.

Ariella Chezar Workshop

Alexander Valley in Northern California is one of my favorite places and Ariella Chezar is one of my favorite floral designers the two came together for 3 extraordinary days this May. Ariella has a lovely way of teaching her techniques and style of design, its such a joy to spend time with her. New flower friends and some old ones spent our time at Chalk Hill Clematis owned and created by the most gracious Kaye and Richard Heafey.

We have been busy making wreaths and flower arrangements this week, even thought it has been finger biting cold. Plenty of hot cider helps warm our fingers and all the Christmas smells make us happy. Here are some flowers you might like for your house.Christmas arrangement, flowers, silver vase

MOTHERS DAY

Posted on: May 3rd, 2013 by melanie No Comments

Today and most days I think about my mom. She is not with us anymore and I miss her. But her spirit will never die she had  too much personality. She loved people and had embarrassing ways of saying things we called myraisms. Generous, glamorous, red head then blond, she kept in touch with old friends and family. I love to garden because of her and because I love to garden I love flowers. I made some flower arrangements with my mom in mind, here are a few.

Spring Planters

Posted on: April 1st, 2013 by melanie No Comments

Right now any excuse to go to the nursery is fine with me. There are so many crazy flowers blooming right now it is hard to choose. We like to gather a few combinations of unusual bulbs and some different primroses and plant them in tins or boxes or maybe ceramic. They are perfectly fine outside but do well inside too.

Super Cute DIY Centerpeices

Posted on: March 12th, 2013 by melanie No Comments

How about this for a super cute, super easy DIY project for your wedding. Leave the bottles in the pack for round tables or line them up for a long table. The pretty pink ranunculus are fairly expensive in the summer so try dahlias instead. Dahlias come in wonderful colors and have fun buds that should be incorporated into the arrangements. Get started early by collecting and painting your bottles. Dont wait until the night before to arrange your flowers, they will last a few days in the vases, just remove any wilted flowers as you set them on the tables.

Peach and grey wedding flowers

Posted on: February 2nd, 2013 by melanie No Comments

Lots of brides this year want peach wedding flowers. Their bridesmaids are wearing grey and peach is a great color for a grey dress. Grey is a great neutral color that goes well with most all flowers. I painted my house grey for just that reason. For this wedding at the Manor House on Bainbridge Island we used peachy pink flowers with some creams and pale yellow.
