How much do wedding flowers cost?
One of the first things people ask and the hardest to give a straight answer. How much is a car or a house or a dress, you get the idea. I have done wedding flowers for as little as a few hundred dollars and as much as 15 thousand. But as a generalization most wedding flowers are 2-5 thousand dollars. If you need just personal flowers the cost may be much less and if you’re wedding is to be very lavish the cost can be much more.
What is the process for selecting wedding flowers?
Once we have made a few phone calls or sent a few emails it would be a good time for us to meet face to face. In our meeting we can talk over your ideas and budget. I will help guide you through the selection of flowers and décor. Together we will come up with a smashing plan for your wedding. My consultations are complementary and are followed by a proposal for your wedding. There is never any obligation to use MBF.
What are some ways I can save on my flower budget?
The easiest way to save on budget is not to fight the room. What I mean to say is if your venue is modern go for a modern look if you really want a vintage look book a sweet little church that has lots of details. The most expensive way to decorate is to fight the venues décor, so find a way to work with what you are given. Choose flowers that will accent the colors that the room already has. Rent some fancy napkins from a wonderful linen vendor for a pop of color. Even if you are having a buffet set the tables, all the sparkle from the silver and glass is free.
What makes flowers so expensive?
Flowers are a delicate commodity that must be handled with care. Each special bloom for your wedding took many people hours of handling to ensure its quality and beauty. Fuel is also a factor driving up the cost of all goods including flowers. Flowers are shipped by next day air freight and we all know how much that costs.
Why are supermarket flowers less expensive than yours?
The grocery store has two way of bringing their prices down. First they sell their flowers close to cost; flowers draw customers into the store to buy things the store does make money on. Second they buy very few varieties in large quantities directly form the grower, skipping the wholesaler. They cannot guarantee color or type or quality of flower at their usual price, if they need wedding flowers they have to purchase from the wholesaler the same as I do.
Do you deliver or travel out of the area?
We serve all of the Puget Sound area. While distance can be a challenge it is never an obstacle to creating a dream wedding such as yours.
Will you work with DIY?
I have and it has been fun to see what brides imaginations can do. It is good to go over all the décor details and be specific about who is actually in charge of installation. I have seen tons of confusion over this and sometimes friends just don’t know what to do and where to place the things that you have worked so hard on. This is a good time to think about a planner.
What are some things that increase cost?
There are lots of them. A big wedding party and tons of guests are budget busters. Buying things you might not need, better get a second opinion. Expensive flowers or flowers out of season bring up the cost. There is a lot of time that is figured into the cost of wedding flowers. Vases have to be washed, prepped, filled, and delivered. Flowers have to be ordered, picked up, cleaned, refrigerated, hydrated and arranged. The van must be loaded, flowers delivered and the venue needs to be transformed. Many venues only allow a short time for installation so extra helpers are needed to ensure perfection.
Do you have items for rent?
We have quite a collection of items we can rent as long as we are doing the flowers too. Mercury glass, sheppards hooks, urns, modern cubes, votives are just some of our items. Sometimes we are even willing to purchase items we don’t have and rent them to you for your wedding. This can be a real cost saver.
